"The video games industry have collaborated hugely with this report. Let's acknowledge that this industry isn't responsible for the ills of society."

Clinical psychologist and TV presenter Dr Tanya Byron discusses her report - The Byron Review - investigating the risks to children from potentially harmful or inappropriate material on the internet and in video games. Her findings were presented to the Prime Minister, who set up the independent report, in March.

For this special event the BAFTA Learning & Events team and Showcomotion Media Conference welcomed Chair Marc Goodchild - Head of Children’s Interactive and On-Demand at BBC Children's - and an enthusiastic audience from the video games, children's, interactive and education sectors.

Discussion includes the research and processes of the Review itself and its implications across the interactive and media sectors as part of the wider debate about the effects of all forms of children’s media and the review of childhood being conducted by the Government.

Dr Byron describes how she involved new technology industries, teachers, parents and children in reaching her findings and recommendations. She emphasises not only regulation but the importance of media literacy and collaboration: "This isn't about hammering industry. It's also about rewarding good practice, and there are people who do it well."
