Alfonso Cuarón’s ability to produce powerful and provocative cinema has placed him at the forefront of Mexican cinema’s current wave. His critically acclaimed and award-winning body of work includes adult comedy, gritty drama, children’s fantasy and apocalyptic sci-fi.

The Mexican director broke onto the international scene with the erotic road movie Y tu mamá también. The film earned him global recognition as well as two BAFTA nominations in 2003. He gained a further nomination for his adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in 2005 before winning a Film not in the English Language BAFTA for Pan’s Labyrinth in 2007.

Interviewed on stage at Academy headquarters by Maria Delgado, Cuarón spoke in depth about his early work in Mexico, his decision to emigrate to the United States and his work on the Harry Potter franchise.
