This is the full list of Awards Categories for the British Academy Video Games Awards, that were presented on 19 March 2010. Categories for the 2011 Awards will be listed shortly.
For games that are predominantly action, includes first/third person shooters and fighting /combat games.
For achievement in visual art and animation across all genres.
For the year’s best game on any platform.
For games which are played on a more social basis, bringing people together and/or played casually. This includes puzzle games, music games, social-networking games, card games and board games playable on a home computer or console.
The ability of a game to captivate and engage a user’s attention and provide a truly compelling experience.
Best gaming experience on a handheld device. This includes mobile phones, Sony PSP, Nintendo DS and Nintendo GBA.
For games or game modes which enable two or more players to interact simultaneously in a game world, either co-operatively or competitively. This includes MMOs and small-number multiplayer modes of single-player games.
Rewarding excellence in original composition and production for music score that significantly enhances the gaming experience.
For games that emulate the playing of traditional or real world sports.
For achievement in conveying compelling and original story content in an innovative and contextual manner.
For games with a high degree of strategic elements where gameplay is centered around decision-making skills. Includes management simulations, life simulations, RPG’s and real-time strategy games.
Rewarding excellence in the design and creative application of sound, dialogue, licensed music tracks and original score, combined to deliver an exceptional audio experience.
Rewarding the best use of online gaming, comprising innovative networking features, either single-player or multi-player, played via consoles, PCs, handheld devices or cross-platform. Genres include first person shooters, real-time strategy, MMOGs, sports, puzzle and social games. |
The prestigious Fellowship which is the highest accolade the Academy can bestow on an individual for outstanding achievement and contribution to the industry through a body of work.
A Gift of the Academy prize for games or gaming technology worthy of special recognition.
The BAFTA Ones To Watch award in association with Dare To Be Digital : The Academy is committed to recognising up-and-coming talent in Video Games and the Dare to be Digital competition, originated by Abertay University, represents the perfect means of doing that. Out of the twelve teams that will be judged during Dare ProtoPlay at August's Edinburgh Interactive Festival, three teams will be rewarded; one on the basis of innovation and creativity, one for its game’s market potential and one for the use of technology. These three chosen teams will then form the shortlist for the BAFTA Ones to Watch Award which will be presented at the British Academy Video Games Awards.
