One of Mexico's most popular stars, Aguilar was an actor and singer in the ranchera tradition. He sold 25 million records in his career, and starred in such films as Tierra de Hombres (1956), The Soldiers of Pancho Villa (1959), The Undefeated (1969), Zapata (1970) and Volver, Volver, Volver (1977).
